Privacy Policy

gardenly values your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information.

1. Information We Collect

  • Account Data: Name, email address, account identifier, and optional profile details such as country or plant-hardiness zone.
  • Usage and Technical Data: Features used, product interactions, subscription events, device and browser information, IP address, and service error or performance information.
  • Garden Content: Garden photos, design requests, style choices, location or climate details you provide, generated designs, and related garden or plant information.
  • Purchase Data: Subscription product, status, renewal, cancellation, and transaction identifiers. Apple or our payment provider handles payment-card data; gardenly does not receive your full card number.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide and improve the Service.
  • To generate and store your garden designs and climate-aware suggestions.
  • To manage accounts, credits, subscriptions, and purchase restoration.
  • To communicate with you about your account, support, and requested updates.
  • To maintain platform security and prevent misuse.

3. Data Collection and Analytics

To improve our Service and provide you with a better user experience, we collect and analyze usage data, including:

  • Session Recordings: With your permission, on the gardenly website or iOS app we may record interactions such as taps, clicks, scrolling, and navigation to understand interface problems. In the iOS app, text inputs and images are masked, network and console capture are disabled, and sign-in, Account, AI-permission, and purchase screens are not recorded.
  • User Behavior Analytics: We collect data about how you use our features, including which tools you access, how long you spend on different pages, and your interaction patterns.
  • Performance Metrics: We monitor technical performance data to ensure our Service runs smoothly and to identify potential issues.

If you opt in, product-interaction analytics from the iOS app are associated with your Gardenly user ID and a random app-install identifier so we can understand activation, generation, and subscription reliability across sessions. This identifier is not the Apple advertising identifier. We do not send photos, drawings, prompts, names, email addresses, authentication values, purchase receipts, or full error messages to PostHog event properties. We do not use this information to track you across other companies' apps or websites or for third-party advertising. This optional setting does not affect paid functionality and can be changed at any time from Account > Privacy & AI settings.

4. AI Processing

To provide a requested design, gardenly sends the selected photo, your drawing, your design request, and relevant garden context to third-party AI services. Our current generation workflow uses Google Gemini for image generation and may use OpenAI for instruction analysis, result quality checks, titles, plant suggestions, or alternative image generation. Upscaling a design sends that design image to Replicate, and creating a garden video sends that design image to xAI. These providers act as our processors under agreements that require them to protect your data to a standard equal to ours, and they may not use it for their own purposes. In the iOS app, we clearly disclose this sharing and ask for explicit permission before the first AI request. Your choice is saved in the app's own data on that device so you are not interrupted before every generation, and it is asked again after you reinstall the app. You can review or change the choice from Account > Privacy & AI settings.

We do not use your garden photos or requests for advertising, and gardenly does not use them to train its own general-purpose AI models. Do not upload a photo unless you have permission to use it. Avoid including people, addresses, documents, or other unnecessary personal information in a garden photo or request.

5. Data Sharing and Selling

We do not sell your personal data. We do not share your data with third parties, except:

  • To processors that help us run the Service, including Google, OpenAI, Replicate, and xAI for AI processing as described in section 4, Cloudflare for image storage, Vercel and our database providers for hosting, PostHog for service analytics, RevenueCat and Apple for App Store purchases, Stripe for web billing, and email providers for authentication and service messages.
  • If required by law or legal process.

6. Storage, Security, and International Processing

We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards appropriate to the information we process. Our providers may process data in the European Union, the United States, and other locations where they operate. Where required, we use lawful transfer mechanisms and contractual protections.

7. Retention, Deletion, and Your Rights

We generally keep account data and saved garden content while your account is active. Operational logs and backups may remain for a limited period, and we may retain billing, fraud-prevention, or legal records where the law requires it. You can permanently delete your account and associated garden content from Settings in the iOS app. You may also request access, correction, export, or deletion by contacting niels@gardenly.app. Deleting a Gardenly account does not automatically cancel an App Store subscription; use Apple's subscription-management screen to stop future billing.

8. Cookies

The website uses cookies for authentication, preferences, analytics, and service reliability. You can control cookies through your browser settings, although blocking essential cookies can prevent sign-in from working. The iOS app does not use browser cookies for advertising or cross-app tracking.

9. Third-Party Links

Our app may include links to external websites (e.g., for plant information). We are not responsible for their privacy practices.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We'll notify you of significant changes by email or within the app.
